Riding Volunteer Positions

If you are interested in volunteering for any of these positions, you must be pre-approved by our staff to register for the tour.  Please contact us at info@bikewisconsin.com or 608-843-8412 before you register!  

Site Coordinator

Site Coordinators act as school hosts or hostesses for one full day during the Minky and Marktour.  They assist in the clean-up and set-up of the day’s sites, staff the information table and are available to help direct riders and answer questions. In exchange for taking off one day of cycling to volunteer they pay a tour registration fee of only $50. 

On-Call Site Coordinator
On-Call Site Coordinators serve as back-ups for the assigned Site Coordinators during the tour.   They pay the full registration fee.  If they are called upon to serve as a Site Coordinator they receive a partial registration fee refund following the tour.    

Workshop Coordinators
Workshop Coordinators lead interested riders in various activities or present workshops during the tour. 

  • Yoga Instructor: Leads one 20-25 minute beginning yoga session in the morning and in the evening each day of the tour.  Must be a Certified Yoga Instructor.  Pays a tour registration fee of only $50.
  • Kids’ Tent Coordinator: Coordinates kids’ activities each evening at the school/fairground.  Must have experience working with children.  Preference given to people with childcare experience.  Pays a tour registration fee of only $50.
  • First Time Rider Program Coordinator:  Communicates with first time riders enrolled in the program before the tour.  Organizes one workshop per day to educate riders, addresses issues related to cycling, and follows up with riders after the tour.  Must have LCI Certification.  Pays a tour registration fee of only $50.

Bicycle Mobile HAM Volunteer
A number of cyclists that are Amateur Radio Operators prefer to cycle during the tours.  WeHAM mobile have found, on occasion, that these operators brought their mobile HAM equipment and provided direct information from the route regarding road hazards and rider conditions.  We created the Bicycle Mobile HAM Riding position to allow cycling HAMs the opportunity to support the tour as a Riding Volunteer by taking one day off from riding to volunteer as a Site Coordinator or Rider Services Assistant while spending the rest of the tour riding and relaying traffic for service/supplies and staying in communication with the Non-Riding Ham volunteers.   Bicycle Mobile Hams must provide own amateur radio equipment and pays a registration fee of only $50. Medical Volunteer
Medical Volunteers agree to address rider questions and concerns each evening.   Must be a Medical Professional.  Pay a tour registration fee of only $50.

On-Call Medical Volunteer
On-Call Medical Volunteers serve as back-ups for the assigned Medical Volunteer during the tour.   They pay the full registration fee.  If they are called upon to serve as a Site Coordinator they receive a partial registration fee refund following the tour.    

Security Volunteer
Security Volunteers are available to assist staff per our Emergency Management Plan.  Pay a tour registration fee of only $50.

On-Call Security Volunteer
On-Call Security Volunteers serve as back-ups for the assigned Security Volunteers during the tour.   They pay the full registration fee.  If they are called upon to serve as a Security Volunteer they receive a partial registration fee refund following the tour.     

Rider Service Assistants
Rider Service Assistants will help in facilitating our Rider Services.  Assignments include:

  • Assist community groups with tent take down/set up
  • Oversee towel service
  • Pick up/drop off motel luggage
  • Support staff at information table
  • Assist with coffee service and route markings

In exchange for taking off one day of cycling to volunteer, a Rider Service Assistant pays a tour registration fee of only $50.

On-Call Crisis Management Team
The On-Call Crisis Management Team are tour participants who serve as back-up support in the event of a crisis.  Based on your area of expertise, assignment and crisis plan will be provided.  If called upon to serve during the event, a partial registration fee will be refunded after the tour.
